*Makay Masonry supports the creation or continued use of a chimney manifest/service record.
*Makay Masonry & Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) highly recommend a licensed mason or chimney sweep conduct any level of inspection or repair/appliance addition…
There are three levels of chimney inspection:
Level 1 The accessible portions of the chimney are inspected. Basic soundness of the structure and flue ends examined. Verify the chimney is free of obstruction & combustible deposits. Minimum level required if appliance & venting system has not changed.
Level 2 The accessible portions of the chimney are inspected with visual aid. Video scanning tool sent up chimney to ensure each flue section is sound. No specialty tools (demolition equipment) required to open doors, panels or coverings. A level 2 inspection is required when any changes are made to the system. Changes can include a change in flue type, changes to the shape of or material in the flue (relining) or addition of an appliance.
Level 3 Includes all the areas and items in level 1 & level 2 as well as the removal of certain components of the building or chimney where necessary. When serious hazards are suspected a level 3 inspection will be required.
We repair your chimney back to its original condition
A common chimney discussion we have with clients is who they should get accurate quotes from for chimney leaks and structural repairs. Chimney sweeps and roofers will “seal” the crown of your chimney using caulk, tar, or a cementitious mastic mix. This will temporarily stop leaks. At Makay Masonry, a licensed Journeyman Mason through the Commonwealth of Virginia will repair your chimney; whether it be the chimneys footing, hearth, firebox, breast, stack, flue liner, or mortar crown. Simply put, Masons build the chimney from the ground up. Repairing important parts of your chimney that are exposed to the elements properly will ensure not only the visible parts of the chimney cosmetically look great, but also will ensure a safe burning, leak free chimney.
